What is the difference between DPPO and DHMO dental insurance?

Dental insurance comes in two basic forms: DPPO (Dental Preferred Provider Organizations – sometimes called PPO) and DHMO insurance plans (Dental Health Maintenance Organizations – sometimes called HMO). Briefly, PPO dental insurance plans have fewer limitations regarding annual spending limits and waiting periods prior to coverage activating than HMO dental insurance plans, but PPO premiums are higher. With a PPO, you will save more by seeing a dentist who is in-network but can also typically opt to see any dentists. With an HMO, you must stay within the network.

What are Dental Savings Plans?

Dental savings plans are an affordable option to dental insurance and are especially suited for people who need more than basic preventive dental care. Plan members get discounts of 10%-60% at all participating dentists and dental specialists. Dental savings plans do not have an annual maximum spending limit, and do not have the waiting periods associated with insurance plans – members can save on *any* treatments included in their plan within 72 hours of purchase.

Does Dentists.org confirm insurance/dental plans accepted information?

Dentists.org makes every effort to ensure that the information we provide is correct. However, if a dentist or dental specialist has recently opted not to accept specific types of insurance or Dental savings plans, or the network has not been immediately notified of changes in participation, it is possible for this information to be incorrect – at least until the next update. We update information regularly, but strongly suggest you confirm insurance or dental plan acceptance information with the dental practice directly to ensure that insurance or plan information is current and correct.

What is the difference between a dentist and a dental specialist?

Dental specialists are dentists who have completed additional training in one of the nine recognized dental specialties. These include Dental Anesthesiology, Dental Public Health, Endodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Periodontics and Prosthodontics.
