How to Find Superior Dental Care

If a routine dental cleaning is all you need, chances are you could walk into any dental office and have the procedure performed reasonably well. After all, that is a very basic treatment. However, if you are in need of more complicated treatment, if you have experienced tooth loss, or if you think you have symptoms of periodontitis or gum disease…well, you probably don’t want to go to just any dental office. You want to find superior dental care.

Superior dental care isn’t necessarily difficult to locate; however, it will take a bit of research to find. That isn’t to say that there aren’t very many superior dental care offices—quite the contrary, actually. However, you will want to find the type of dentist and office that corresponds to the type of treatment and care that you will need. For instance, if you have experienced tooth loss and need a dentist to perform tooth restoration procedures, you will not want to choose a dentist whose practice specializes in endodontics (a specialty of dentistry involving the pulp and root of the tooth in which dentists frequently perform root canals in an effort to save teeth). Instead, you would need to see a prosthodontist or prosthodontic dentist—a dentist who specializes in tooth restoration, including dental implants, bridgework, and dentures.

So, your first step in finding superior dental care is, then, to determine exactly what type of dentist you need to see. If you aren’t sure, you can do some searching online. Simply search for your dental problem, such as “loose adult teeth” or “swollen bleeding gums”--or whatever your specific dental problem happens to be. You should be able to see in the search results the type of dentist to see—perhaps a periodontists, oral surgeon, maxillofacial prosthodontist, or even simply a general dentist could take care of your particular problem. If you still aren’t certain after doing an internet search, you can call a regular dentist or contact the American Dental Association (ADA) for assistance.

The next step in finding superior dental care is to find some names of dentists. You can use our Find a Dentist search tool for that. This tool will provide you with several dentists, and you can do a little background research on them to decide which one will be best to provide you with superior dental care.

To use the Find a Dentist tool, simply select the type of dentist you need from the menu and type in your location. After clicking ‘submit,’ a list of dentist names will come up. You can click on each name to find out about that dentist’s education and training. You can also call the dentist’s office or contact your State Licensing Board for information about each dentist.

Once you have information about each dentist, you should be able to wisely choose which one will be best able to provide you with superior dental care for the particular dental issue you are having by comparing the information.

Remember this guideline so that you can follow it the next time you need to find superior dental care for a different dental issue.
