Two Types of Cheap Dental Insurance
Good oral health is important—everyone knows that. We all brush our teeth twice each day. Most of us try to floss once every day, and a great number of us use plaque-fighting mouthwashes or mouth rinses. We all understand that we should avoid sugary foods since those are bad for our teeth, too. Many of us, though, cannot regularly do the other activity associated with good oral health. A lot of us cannot regularly visit the dentist.
To be sure, there are a number of people who simply do not want to visit the dentist. However, there are countless people who would like to go to the dentist, but they cannot. This is because they just cannot afford to pay for the dentist. These people need to find cheap dental insurance.
Cheap dental insurance is available in a couple of different forms. Traditional insurance is the type with which most people are familiar.
Traditional cheap dental insurance can be purchased, where a specific amount of money is paid per month or per year for the insurance. With this type of insurance, there are many variables. First of all, the monthly or yearly cost can differ, depending upon the insurance plan. Some are offered for, say, $6.95 per month per person; others may cost $179 per year for a family plan. You will have to shop around to find the cheapest dental insurance plan.
Cheap dental insurance plans also vary in what, exactly, they cover. Some are only accepted by certain member dentists. There are also dentists who only accept a certain number of patients from certain insurance plans or who only schedule these patients on certain days. Some cheap dental insurance plans cover routine cleanings and check-ups; others may not. Read the fine print to see what is covered and what is not for each plan. It may be worthwhile to pay a little bit more to be able to see the dentist you would like to see or to be able to have fluoride treatments covered for your children.
Most cheap dental insurance plans will pay for a portion of the services they cover; they will not cover the complete cost. Typically, they cover 50 per cent of the cost of the service.
The other type of cheap dental insurance that you can get is a discount dental plan. This type of insurance is similar to the above plan in that the cost can differ. Discount plans are paid for as a yearly fee. They can cost around $80 for a single person or $150 for a family.
The way this type of cheap dental insurance works is that it gives you a discount on dental services at member dentists. You will have to visit dentists who are part of the discount dental plan. The discounts offered are usually anywhere from 10 to 60 per cent off of the normal cost, and you can get discounts on any type of service—including x-rays, root canals, cleanings, and dentures.
Either of these types of cheap dental insurance plans will save a great deal of money—thereby helping people on a tight budget to be able to visit the dentist.
