New Study Shows that Modern Lifestyle Prevents Tooth Decay

While it was previously thought that the foods that Americans eat is the sole factor in determining our rate of tooth decay, scientists now know that many other aspects play vital roles in protecting our teeth- especially dental education.

Because of technological and scientific advances, the world knows much more about oral care than they did 100 years ago. For instance, we understand that brushing and flossing our teeth every day prevents a buildup of plaque- tiny germs that eat away at the enamel of teeth. Also, we have mastered orthodontic wear and know how to straighten and even brighten our smiles.

The study, which was published as a supplement to Obesity Reviews Journal, points this out. It maintains that our knowledge, more than our diet has made the rate of tooth decay dramatically drop in the last 20 years.
