Maryland Dental School Expands to Service Community
This week marks the two-year anniversary of the death of a 12-year-old boy from Maryland. Though he grew up in a wealthy family, in a wealthy area, he did not receive proper dental work. $80 for a routine cleaning could have saved the boys life.
It was discovered that the boy had a tooth that began to decay, and picked up an infection. This infection spread to his brain and ultimately killed him. This boy’s story attracted the attention of dentists all around the state of Maryland, and they decided that they needed to do more community outreach.
For this reason, the Maryland Dental School is building an expansion in a rural county. The hopes are that the dental students who will work at this clinic will be able to provide quality, low-cost dental assistance to those who need it.
All of the dentists involved in the project said that treatment for dental disorders is often tricky, but preventative medicine is easy and effective.
