Dentist Allowed to Sue Couple for Libelous Yelp Posting
For the very first time, a dentist is being allowed to pursue a lawsuit against her patients’ Yelp posting. On the popular website, users are allowed to post reviews about products, stores, doctors, dentists….just about anything. However, dentist Yvonne Wong claims that one of the reviews was unnecessarily false and is suing for libel. She says that the review has hurt her business and her reputation.
In the review, the couple wrote that the dentist had used mercury in their child’s cavity filling and that her anesthesia had left him feeling lightheaded. However, Dr. Wong claims that the parents, in fact, signed a consent and release form, proving that they had knowledge of the mercury and that the anesthesia would make their child lightheaded. By making the posting, they disregarded their signed consent form.
