Dentists Lobby to Restrict Soda from Food Stamp Purchases

The acids and sugars that are found in soda pop are one of the leading causes of obesity and tooth decay in America. The acid tears away the enamel of the teeth and sugar creates a plaque buildup that can lead to severe gum disease. Most people don’t realize that they can spare their teeth much damage by removing this fizzy beverage from their diet, or by brushing immediately after consumption.

Unfortunately the lower classes of America, especially, have not received this training and have the highest rates of obesity and tooth decay. These people often rely on food stamps to get meals for their family. These stamps are given out by a government office, and are funded by tax dollars.

Some dentists want to add soda to the list of restricted items that food stamps cannot purchase, including: tobacco, alcohol, cleaning supplies and paper products. They think that this will dramatically cut down on the amount of overweight, unhealthy people in the United States.

These dentists believe that food stamps should only be able to be used for healthy, nutritious food, because they are paid for by the American people. Some disagree with this statement, and feel that the underprivileged should also be able to enjoy a Coke. Ask your dentist what he or she thinks today.
