Americans Go Without Routine Dental Care

A recent article, published in USA Today, reports on the dental care “epidemic” that is sweeping the nation. It stated that more and more Americans are viewing the regular dental check-ups as a luxury, instead of a necessity. This is causing larger, more expensive problems down the road, when they have to remove teeth or put in fillings to correct problems.

The average person should visit the dentist every six months. However, the recent Gallup poll indicated that 34%, more than one-third, of the United States population did not see a dentist at all in the past year. It also surveyed the number of dentist trips by state, and found that some had rates of up to almost 50%.

Among those who skip their regular visits to the dentist, include: the elderly, African Americans, Latinos and those living in poverty. For more information about the importance of dental care, make an appointment with your local practitioner today.
